Alnmaritec reaches landmark with EnduranceCompany News // September 22, 2010
Alnmaritec, the specialist aluminium boat builder based in Northumberland in the UK, recently announced a landmark achievement with the successful launch of the 100th vessel built by the company.
The boat, Endurance, was launched in August of this year nearly a century after Shackleton’s original boat of that name, and is built for duties in windfarm maintenance support roles. The boat is an Alnmaritec 'Wave Commander' class unit.
Endurance was built for North Sea Logistics and is the fifth in a series of sister vessels of the same design built for the company. A further vessel is currently under construction at the yard.
Endurance is an aluminium asymmetric catamaran fitted with twin 875 bhp Caterpillar C18 diesels engines driving conventional five bladed 800mm diameter fixed pitch propellers through Twin Disc MGX 5135 Quick Shift gearboxes.
These give her a top speed of 25 knots and she is also fitted with twin electric bow thrusters which give her excellent manoeuvrability.
