    Vessel & ROV News // July 15, 2010

Eidesvik in Norway has confirmed that it has entered into a contract to build a fourth LNG-fuelled PSV and says that by doing so it has "again proven a strong commitment to green solutions."

Eidesvik built the world’s first natural gas powered cargo vessel as early as in 2003 (Viking Energy) and is also developing environmental friendly fuel cell technology for offshore vessels.

"Eidesvik has entered into a contract to build the fourth PSV powered by natural gas, and by doing so has again proven a strong commitment to green solutions," said the company in a statement.

As previously reported in Offshore Shipping Online, the contract was placed with Kleven Maritime.

The newbuild is a VS 489 LNG design which is 89m long with a breadth of 21m.

The vessel is due to be delivered in the spring of 2012. Eidesvik has an option to build another VS 489 LNG vessel for delivery in the third quarter of 2012 at the same price.
