    Vessel & ROV News // June 14, 2010

Rederi TransAtlantic has confirmed that it took delivery of the AHTS vessel Loke Viking recently from Astilleros Zamakona shipyard in Bilbao, Spain.

The christening ceremony took place on May 20. The godmother was Eva Skaarberg, wife of President Rolf Skaarberg from Norwegian Viking Supply Ship AS.

Loke Viking has been contracted by Cairn Energy to assist in oil drilling west of Greenland. The assignment also includes the two AHTS vessels, Balder Viking and Vidar Viking.

Loke Viking is the first newbuild in a series of four that are being built in the shipyard. A sister vessel, Njord Viking, is scheduled for delivery in November 2010.

The vessel series is specifically designed to meet demands for efficient, safe and environmentally friendly offshore management in areas with severe ice conditions.

Loke Viking is also designed to serve as a standby vessel, has oilrec, clean design, and a deck area of 750m2. The newbuild has a length of 85m, breadth of 22m, and a deadweight of 4,500 tonnes.
