Kleven Maritime has entered into contracts with Rem Offshore for construction of two VS496 PSVs designed by Wärtsilä Ship Design Norway.
The vessels are to be outfitted at Kleven Verft in Ulsteinvik, Norway, and have delivery dates of June 30th and September 30th 2011.
Said the yard: "For Kleven Maritime it is especially welcome that Rem Offshore returns to the group, as Kleven Maritime previously has delivered 10 vessels between 2004 and 2009."
”For the employees at Kleven Maritime – and in particular Kleven Verft – this event is most welcome. There is a lot of attention related to the market and possible new contracts in our organisation, so this will be very well received by all employees” said Ståle Rasmussen, the company's CEO.
Rem Offshore's main shareholder Åge Remøy said: "For us it is very nice to make business with Kleven once more. Our relations with Kleven are long term and strong, we believe in the market ahead, and we are positioning our company for further growth.”
The two new vessels represent a new generation of environmentally friendly and robust PSV with attention to low emissions, fuel economy and optimised cargo
capacity both above and below deck.
Ice class ICE C makes the vessels suitable for operations in the North, and the latest oil recovery equipment (OIL RECOVERY NOFO 2009) adds further value to the vessels in the market.
The vessels will have a deadweight of around 5,000 tonnes, loa of 85m, beam of 20m,
and deck space of more than 1,000m2. They will also have CLEAN DESIGN class notation.
Wärtsilä will be delivering the design, generator sets, automation and electrical systems. The contracts will also ensure deliveries for local suppliers such as Hareid Elektriske Teknikk and Brunvoll.
