New windfarm tender has SWATH hullformVessel & ROV News // April 20, 2010
Natalia Bekker is the first offshore windfarm vessel with a SWATH hullform.
What is claimed to be the first windfarm tender with a Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull (SWATH) hullform was formally named earlier this week at the German yard that built her.
The first 25m SWATH@A&R Windpark Tender was christened at German shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen. She was named Natalia Bekker and was built for BARD-Group.
Said the yard: "High sea states make boarding offshore structures a difficult and dangerous task. Therefore, a special fender system is installed at the vesselís bow to further dampen the already low shipís motion. The vessel will be permanently situated in the offshore windfarm where a team of service personnel will be readily available 24/7 on a living platform."
The vessel is the 11th vessel of SWATH@A&R†construction. Since 1999 several vessels with lengths of 25m, 40m, 50m and 60m such as as pilot tenders and a motor yacht have been built with this hullform.
The same hullfrom was also chosen by the Latvian Navy for a series of patrol vessels, and the Estonian waterways authorities has opted for a hydrographic research vessel with SWATH@A&R technology.
