Cable ship catches fireYard News // February 1, 2010
LR-Fairplay reports that a cable ship undergoing repairs has been damaged in a fire at the Keppel Philippines Marine yard in Batangas yard.
LR-Fairplay said no-one was hurt in the 30-minute blaze late last week, which caused extensive damage to Wave Venture, which is operated by Global Marine Systems. The fire reportedly started from hot works by a welder in the engine room, between the water ballast and coffer dam.
A fire officer told reporters that the blaze quickly engulfed ship, part of which had been newly painted. A full estimate of damage has not been determined.
