LR-Fairplay's Daily Newbuilding News says Factorias Vulcano shipyard in Spain has signed a deal to build offshore and research vessels for Venezuela’s government.
The US$995 million contract, signed in Caracas, calls for two seismic vessels, two oceanographic ships and one icebreaking polar oceanographic vessel.
Factorias Vulcano will build three of them at its main yard in Vigo, northwestern Spain whilst two oceanographic vessels will be subcontracted to shipbuilder Freire which is also in Vigo.
Factorias Vulcano said the vessels will be delivered from 2010 to 2012.
