Havyard Group to build Havyard 848 SMART anchor handler

    Vessel & ROV News // June 18, 2009

Havyard Group in Norway has signed contract to build a Havyard 848 SMART AHTS. The contract includes an option for one additional vessel.

The first vessel will be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2011 and the optional vessel in the second quarter of 2012. The owner is Smart Shipinvest.

The vessel will be equipped with the SMART anchor handling concept developed by ODIM in Norway.

Havyard Group said it believes an anchor handler with a SMART anchor handling system will be more efficient than competing designs.

"This concept represents considerable cost savings, increased safety and savings to the environment for owner, rig operator and oil company," said the Group. "A Havyard 848 SMART will be able to do the same job as you need three vessels to do today."

The vessel will be 110m overall with a breadth of 26m, bollard pull of 350 tonnes, a 500 tonne AHTS winch, an ODIM CTCU of 250 tonnes, a 250 tonnes 'A' frame and a 150 tonne offshore crane.
