Unique programme for OSJ Conference at Nor-Shipping

    News // May 15, 2009

The OSJ Conference at Nor-Shipping will take place June 11th in Lillestrom outside Oslo, Norway, and is being held in partnership with the Nor-Shipping exhibition.

The event is an Offshore Support Journal event focusing
on new technology for next generation OSVs, and provides an exceptional conference programme delivered over four sessions:

    • new technology for PSVs: catering for all classes of cargo
    • taking up the strain: innovative load handling technology for deepwater cranes
    • anchor handling and cargo handling technology: key solutions to the step-change in safety
    • propulsion for new generation OSVs: machinery for greener, leaner operators

    PROGRAMME HIGHTLIGHTS INCLUDE

    Morning Session Showcase:

Arnstein Eknes, Business Director OSVs at classification society DNV will provide the keynote paper at the OSJ Conference at Nor-Shipping. DNV classifies around 60 per cent of the offshore support vessels on order worldwide and is at the forefront of efforts to make OSVs more cost effective and safer to operate. Mr Eknes will offer invaluable insights into what DNV sees as the key issues in the years ahead, new markets and opportunities for operators of OSVs, and on topics such as safety, marine environmental protection, and opportunities and challenges in Arctic waters and in deep water.

    Afternoon Session Showcase:

Svein Erik Mykland, Operations Director, anchor handling operations at Siem Offshore will provide an insight into how the company plans to train the crew who will operate the new generation VS 491 CD anchor handlers that it currently has on order. Crewing and training for anchor handling operations is an especially important issue in the OSV industry at present, and Siem Offshore is becoming a significant operator of anchor handling vessels. It has entered into a long-term collaboration with the Offshore Simulator Centre in Ålesund and the Ålesund University College , to train and develop the anchor handling expertise of its crew. “Our goal is to pursue increasingly high standards of what is considered good expertise within our field,” said Mr Mykland. “We want to contribute to the reinforcement of good training in the industry and support the development of suitable training concepts.”
