Siem Offshore cancels two newbuilds at KlevenYard News // March 24, 2009
Siem Offshore and Kleven shipyard have agreed to cancel two shipbuilding contracts for anchor handlers for the mutual benefit of both parties.
Capacity issues with major sub-contractors as well as general market turmoil were instrumental factors in the decision, both for Siem Offshore and Kleven, said the Norwegian owner in a statemet.
The cancelled contracts had delivery dates in August and September 2009, and represented two of a total of 10 shipbuilding contracts for AHTS vessels ordered by Siem Offshore.
The yard has confirmed that it expects to deliver the remaining anchor handlers under construction on or about the contractual delivery dates. The pre-delivery instalments paid on the two cancelled shipbuilding contracts will be offset towards the remaining pre-delivery instalments on the remaining number of vessels.
