Technip sets world record for ultra deepwater pipeline installation

    News // March 19, 2009

Technip set two new industry records within the framework of Shell’s Perdido Development in the Gulf of Mexico, which it operates on behalf of partners Chevron and BP.

    The two records are:

    • the deepest reeled flowline installation, at a water depth of 2,961m (9,713ft)
    • the deepest reeled steel catenary riser installation at a water depth of 2,469m (8,100ft).

The Perdido field is located approximately 320km (200 miles) south of Freeport, Texas. Installation was successfully completed in January 2009.

The flowline and riser had a total length of 13.2km (8.2 miles).

Technip’s operating centre in Houston, Texas, executed the contract.

Welding operations took place at the Group’s spoolbase located in Mobile, Alabama.

Offshore installation was performed using Deep Blue, Technip’s deepwater pipelay vessel.
