Construction commences on Polarcus vessels NB71 and NB72

    Vessel & ROV News // January 5, 2009

Plate cutting ceremonies marking the commencement of construction for Polarcus vessels NB71 and NB72 were held on the 15 and 18 December 2008 respectively.

This brings to six the number of 3-D seismic vessels Polarcus currently has under construction at the Drydocks World - Dubai shipyard in the United Arab Emirates.

Vessels NB71 (Polarcus Asima) and NB72 (Polarcus Alima) are both 12 streamer 3-D vessels of design type ULSTEIN SX134.

These 92m vessels will carry the high ice class notation ICE-1A from the DNV classification society and will be amongst the safest and most environmentally sound seismic vessels in the market, with diesel electric propulsion, high specification catalytic convertors, DP2 dynamic positioning, grounding avoidance systems, double hulls and advanced ballast water treatment / bilge water cleaning systems.

As with the preceding four vessels already under construction for Polarcus these two new vessels will also comply with the stringent DNV CLEAN DESIGN notation.

"I am especially pleased that we were able to mark these two important events this month", commented Rolf Ronningen, CEO Polarcus. "Since our launch in May the team has made excellent progress both in the vessel building programme and in the development of the company infrastructure and support systems."

"I am very confident that this effort will continue unabated in 2009 as we prepare for our first operations in the Fall."
