Wave Ranger Class makes a splashVessel & ROV News // December 12, 2008
Alnmaritec's Wave Ranger class is aimed at the offshore industry.
The new Wave Ranger class of Fast Rescue Work Boat (FRWB) was launched this autumn by Alnmaritec in the UK, and after an extensive series of trials including self righting and drop tests has now received her full SOLAS Fast Rescue Boat accreditation with Lloyd’s Register.
The design has been a joint development between Alnmaritec and the design company Camarc and marks the launch of a new concept in Fast Rescue Boats.
The FRWB is designed to meet the stringent requirements of the SOLAS code being certified as a ‘SOLAS Fast Rescue Boat’, yet she is also functionally designed to suit the requirements of an offshore workboat and is classified as such under the MCA workboat code.
She is a rugged and versatile performer drawing many of her features from both the range of Alnmaritec offshore workboats and also from the Camarc range of fast rescue craft.
She is fitted with a single Yanmar diesel driving a Hamilton waterjet and she has a small wheelhouse for up to four personnel, a capstan with line handling gear aft and a bow access platform forward (although other options are also available).
The design is aimed squarely at the offshore industry where her functionality and durability as a workboat will complement her fast rescue role. She is seaworthy, fast and stable and will provide a step change in functional performance over the traditional SOLAS fast rescue boats.
