Island Offshore's Island Wellserver was given the title 'Ship of the Year' by Skipsrevyen magazine at the SMM exhibition in Hamburg, Germany, on September 24th.
The award for the ship - built by Aker Yards Langsten - was made by the Norwegian State Secretary Rikke Lind.
Ms Lind said the ship "introduces new standards for working
environment, safety and comfort."
"The vessel is a masterpiece in Norwegian shipbuilding and
reflects the high market demands in the booming sector of shipbased light well intervention services”, said State Secretary Lind.
Built to the highest DNV Comfort Class notation, she has a noise and vibration level similar to a modern cruise ship. This makes her the world’s only offshore vessel with DNV's highest Comfort Class, V(1) C(1).
Vessels entered in Skipsrevyen's Ship of the Year competition are nominated by the readers of the magazine, but the final selection is the responsibility of a jury consisting of the Publisher and Editor of the magazine, Asle Strønen, the former managing director of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association, Rolf Sæther and the managing director of the Norwegian Shipbuilder's Association, Birger Skår.
