    Work starts on new COSCOL heavy lifter

    The first of COSCOL's new heavylifters is due to be delivered in 2010.

    COSCOL reports that on August 28th, a steel cutting ceremony was held for its 50,000dwt new generation semi-submersible vessels, which are being built by Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited and CSSC Guangzhou Shipbuilding Company Limited, in Guangzhou, China.

    The newbuilding semi-submersible vessels will be equipped with two independent engine rooms, two propellers and electrically-driven thrusters.

    The vessels will be 216.3m overall with a moulded breadth of 43m, moulded depth of 13m, and 178m 43m main deck.

    The first vessel is due to be dleivered in September, 2010.
