Trans Viking Icebreaking & Offshore has been awarded a contract by StatoilHydro for stratigraphic core drilling northeast of Greenland.
The nominated vessel is Vidar Viking, and the ship will be equipped with a drilling derrick and the moonpool.
The area to the northeast of Greenland has harsh weather and icy conditions. Ice management will carried out together with the Swedish icebreaker Oden, along with a helicopter for ice surveillance.
The contract period will be about 6-8 weeks with four weeks planned drilling operations off Greenland. The work scope also includes seabed surveying with a multibeam sonar and other research work.
