First Wave Streamer seismic survey craft launchedVessel & ROV News // June 5, 2008
Alnmaritec in the UK recently launched the first of its new ‘Wave Streamer’ class of seismic survey support boats.
The 7.8m x 3m craft is very robustly built yet through careful weight control and structural optimization she comes in at under 7 tonnes when light and she packs a surprising amount of equipment including a complex hydraulics package into a very compact arrangement.
She is designed with a single point lift arrangement to allow her to be davit launched and recovered from a seismic survey ship whilst underway and deployed for streamer handling operations.
The craft is fitted with twin Yanmar 240bhp engines and Ultrajet 305 waterjets which give her excellent slow speed manoeuvrability as well as a top speed of over 20 knots and a bollard pull of nearly 2 tonnes.
Her hullform was extensively model tested at Newcastle University and she is very stable and exceptionally seaworthy to allow her to offer maximum performance offshore.
