    Vessel & ROV News // May 22, 2008

SMD in the UK has announced the award of a contract from China Shipbuilding and Offshore International Co Ltd (CSOC) for the supply of a Work Class ROV.

SMD will supply its popular 100hp Quasar WROV configured for object detection and recovery, facilities maintenance, salvage and other engineering supporting work.

SMD Sales Director, Mike Jones, said: “We are delighted with this contract award. This will be the third ROV system we have supplied to China and it maintains our leadership in this marketplace. We will be working closely with our Chinese representative, Bluewhale, to build key parts of the system in China.”

The SMD Quasar is an agile and compact Work Class ROV with a 250kg payload suitable for deepwater survey, construction and drill support.

SMD currently has commitments for six Quasar Systems with further orders anticipated soon.
