Acergy Merlin, a ST 253 design, will be delivered late this year.
Volstad Shipping in Norway has confirmed that it has signed a contract with Baatbygg AS in Maaloy, Norway to build an 85.3m x 18m Inspection, Maintenance & Repair (IMR) and survey vessel.
"The ST-253 designed from Skipsteknisk in Aalesund will have a special focus on environmental friendly and safe operations," said the company in a statement.
Volstad Shipping has entered into a charter agreement with Acergy for the vessel, to be named Acergy Merlin, a charter that will commence on delivery, which is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2008.
Acergy said of the vessel: "The vessel will feature an advanced work class ROV, fully fitted with permanent survey equipment suite for inspection, survey and construction support activities."
"This vessel will be able to operate and deploy its ROV(s) in harsh North Sea conditions from the hangar and offer comfortable accommodation and working conditions to the crew."
"Acergy Merlin will be equipped with modern and efficient engines, featuring SCR catalytic converters reducing the NOx emission, thus contributing to reduce the impact to the environment. "
