    New Chair for ERRVA

    Organisations and Associations // November 1, 2007

David Kenwright is the Chairman of the ERRVA.

A new Chairman has been appointed by the representative organisation for companies operating Emergency Rescue and Response Vessels (EERVs) in the North Sea.

David Kenwright, who has more than 40 years’ experience in the maritime industry and was latterly Managing Director of Gulf Offshore North Sea, succeeds John Wilson in the post.

His key role at the helm of the Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel Association (ERRVA) is to promote the common interests of member companies that provide vital safety support services for the offshore energy industry.

ERRVA Senior Vice-Chair Callum Bruce, of North Star Shipping, said: “We are delighted to have someone of David’s skills and extensive experience as the focal point of our organisation, building on John’s achievements in the role."

“These are exciting times for our rescue and recovery sector – many member companies are investing heavily to create a technology-led fleet that meets the needs of the modern-day energy industry."

“It’s very important that, as a sector, we continue to promote the diverse services we provide and underline our operational and safety credentials. The North Sea ERRV fleet is viewed as a global leader in its field and collectively we’re determined it will remain that way.”

ERRVA presently has 10 member companies that also provide collision and pollution monitoring and general field support services.

David Kenwright said: “I am looking forward enormously to my new role with an organisation that is all about ensuring the provision of a world-class offshore rescue and recovery service."

“ERRVA vessels are on hand at any time, in any conditions, to provide an immediate response to offshore incidents and I know member companies remain committed to continuing to provide a quality, reliable service that has been the hallmark of the sector down the years.”

ERRVA members presently operate nearly 130 vessels in the North Sea, employing around 3,000 crew members.

David Kenwright held a series of senior posts with BP Shipping after first joining the BP group in 1965 as an engineer cadet. He became Division Manager for Gulf Offshore, an ERRVA member company, after it acquired BP Shipping North Sea assets in 1993, and assumed the position of Managing Director in February 2001. David is also a director of gas tanker company Navigator Holdings plc.
