Subsea UK appoints leading industry figure as Chairman News

Subsea UK, the organisation formed to harness and promote subsea expertise within the United Kingdom, has taken a step forward by appointing Bill Edgar, CBE as chairman. A chartered engineer with over 30 years in the oil and gas industry, Mr Edgar is currently President of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a Director of Wood Group Holdings International.
Mr Edgar takes over from Ron Cookson who assumed the role of interim chairman last August. Mr Cookson, general manager of one of the world's leading subsea engineering and construction firms, Technip Offshore UK Ltd will remain on the board of Subsea UK.
Mr Edgar joined the Wood Group in Aberdeen in 1995 and until May this year, he was the Group Director responsible for the engineering and production facilities division, overseeing 35 business units operating in 19 countries with an annual turnover in excess of US$1 billion. In this capacity he was chairman and chief executive of Wood Group Engineering and chairman of JP Kenny Group of Consulting Engineers.
