    Equipment & Technology // November 1, 2006

    Superior Offshore International’s construction/fabrication
division has purchased a new 160-ton Kobelco hydraulic crawler crane, dramatically increasing the facility’s lifting and hoisting capabilities.

The Kobelco CK1600-II crane has a maximum boom length of 250ft and is capable of lifting 320,000 pounds. The CK1600-II features an innovative full hydraulic system able to perform all crane operations including load hoist, boom hoist, swing, propel and crawler extension/extraction, free-fall, as well as counterweight and crawler frame installation and removal.

"The new crane allows this division to manage bigger, higher tonnage onshore construction projects and increases our mobilization and demobilization capacity dockside for offshore subsea construction jobs," said Brandon Gaspard, SOI's Construction/Fabrication General Manager.

Superior Offshore’s Construction/Fabrication facility is set on 7.5 acres near the Intercoastal Canal in Amelia, Louisiana, offering approximately 500ft of dockside access, a 30,000 square foot enclosed fabrication shop, and an 18,000 square foot full-blasting and painting yard.

The full service facility also offers in-house engineering, code calculations, and quality control performed by ASME certified personnel.
