Bibby opens India’s first DP training centreNews // October 31, 2006
Bibby International Services Group which provides crew management solutions to the marine industry has opened India’s first dynamic positioning (DP) training facility in Mumbai. The new Sir Derek Bibby DP Centre represents a major step forward for Asia’s growing offshore industry.
Sir Michael Bibby performed the official naming ceremony of the DP centre which is named after his late father, Sir Derek Bibby, who was president of the Company until 2002.
He stated how proud his father would have been, particularly after his long and distinguished association with India.
The Sir Derek Bibby DP Centre is fully equipped with an Alstom ‘A’ Series system providing a wide range of offshore support vessel simulations.
The training centre will offer insights into the practical aspects of DP operation via hands-on training.
Having been assessed by the Nautical Institute, the Sir Derek Bibby DP Centre was given full accreditation for both its induction and simulator programme.
Bibby International Services managing director Martyn Howard said: “The new DP centre is of great importance in the growth and development plans of the crew management group. It represents further steps in the development of a global training network and will provide existing and future clients with the comprehensive services and crewing solutions they require, while reinforcing the company’s commitment to training.”
Sir Michael Bibby paid tribute to the support of the Indian government and regulatory authorities in supporting the establishment of the centre. He anticipated that this world class training facility would assist Indian seafarers further in their development of high level skills within the offshore market.
