    Helix planning DSV newbuild?

    Vessel & ROV News // October 26, 2006

Seascope Offshore reports that Helix Energy Solutions (ex-Caldive) are in the process of ordering a newbuild DSV/light well intervention vessel with a price tag of US$160 million at Merwede shipyard in Holland – the vessel will be operational by the end of 2008 and will be capable of operating in the North Sea and West of Shetlands.

The company's Well Ops subsidiary currently operates Seawell in the North Sea – the vessel has recently been awarded a three year (circa 200 days per year) contract by Shell.

Helix is also converting Caesar (ex-C S Baron) in Rotterdam into a deepwater pipelay unit – the combined purchase / conversion cost of the vessel is circa US$125 million and will be operational around Spring 2007.
