    Jascon 5 "exceeding expectations"

    News // January 21, 2005
Seatrucks Group, owners of the DP3 dynamically positioned pipelay/construction vessel Jascon 5, say the vessel "has exceeded all expectations" during her first platform installation and pipelay assignment offshore Qatar.

Jascon 5 is specifically designed to lay pipe (4-48in diameter) in S-lay configuration in very shallow water using its 8- point mooring system, and in very deep water using its DP3 dynamic positioning system. The vessel sailed to her assignment in the Middle East immediately after completing acceptance trials, and was then loaded out and mobilised directly to Qatar to perform a project for Likpin LLC involving the setting and piling of wellhead platform jackets, and associated pipelay.

"All of the work proceeded perfectly with the vessel operating at all times using her (DP3) Dynamic Positioning capability," said Seatrucks.

Pipe-lay progress gradually increased to well in excess of 3km per day, despite the need to induct new operational crew and commission new welding equipment.
