Bourbon Offshore to build two PSVs with MACS cargo tanksNews // October 16, 2006
Bourbon Offshore has ordered two PSVs with PG Marine's MACS.
Sources in Norway say Bourbon Offshore has implemented agreements to build 2 + 2 Ulstein Design PX105 MACS PSVs with the recently developed Multi Application Cargo Solutions (MACS) cargo tank concept developed by PG Marine and partners.
Final negotiations with potential yards are expected to be concluded by the end of this month.
PG Marine Group said the contracts will require it to deliver a total of eight MACS installations per vessel, of which four units are combination tanks also used for dry bulk.
In addition, the ships will also have PG Marine's newly developed SLA 125-75 DW deepwell chemical/special cargo pumps installed in 10 wingtanks, together with all other conventional liquid cargo systems.
MACS was developed by PG Marine working closely with Bourbon Offshore Norway, Flowsafe, and Ulstein Design, and is a novel, combination tank solution for offshore vessels, the aim of the project being to develop a radically new solution for combination tanks (capable of handling liquid and dry-bulk cargo) without the need for conventional pressure tanks.
PG Marine describes the Multi Application Cargo Solution as a combination system that enables the use of a single tank type for different types of cargo, ranging from drill cuttings, to dry bulk, synthetic fluids and oil recovery.
Customers can choose among several alternative tank arrangements, depending on which cargo combinations the vessel is designed to handle.
Recognising the potential of the new concept, Ulstein Design, Ulstein Group’s design house, offered to study the integration of MACS into its designs for offshore support vessels.
