    QinetiQ announces career change for Triton

    After successfully proving the concept of using a trimaran design for future warships, QinetiQ's triple-hull research vessel, Triton, has been sold to UK company, Gardline.

    The vessel will be operated by Gardline Marine Services Ltd (GMSL), who anticipate that, following conversion, Triton will commence hydrographic survey work for the UK's Civil Hydrography Programme (CHP).

    The programme will commence in the UK Western Approaches on behalf of GMSL's client, the government agency responsible for safety of navigation and CHP sponsor, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).

    Gardline's initial modification plans include installation of survey sensor suite including a Kongsberg Simrad EM1002 multi-beam echo-sounder, GPS attitude/heading system, surface navigation and ultra-short baseline sub-surface acoustic tracking system,Echo Sounder, Voyager 5 (Gardline's new generation Integrated Survey System), and Caris post-processing system
