    Vessel & ROV News // July 3, 2006

Rieber Shipping in Norway says the conversion of its vessel Polar King to a seismic vessel is nearly complete.

Polar King arrived at yard in Norway to be converted back to a seismic ship and to be rigged as a seismic ship - a role for which she was built - in February.

The main aspects of the conversion include: removal of cable laying equipment; modification of spaces and steel structures, machinery, and electrical systems; installation of a new slipway and hangar arrangement; installation of seismic equipment (including 10 streamer winches, 10 towing points and two lead-in winches); revised accommodation; modifications to the shipís fuel systems to operate on heavy fuel oil; rearranging the shaft tunnel aft of the engine room to for heavy fuel oil equipment, new seismic compressors, including frequency converters and other auxiliary equipment; rebuilding of cable tank Number 2;  replacement of shipís Fast Rescue Craft and installation of a new workboat on starboard side; rearrangement of chartererís lounge as a conference room and a lounge.

On completion of the conversion Polar King was due to be renamed Geo Atlantic.
