Bibby Sapphire successfully cuts her teeth

    Projects and Operations // May 18, 2006

The latest addition to Bibby Offshore's fleet, Bibby Sapphire, has successfully completed her first assignment, reports the company.

In November 2005 Bibby Offshore were contracted to OTSL of Trinidad for the provision of the DSV Aquamarine to provide diving and construction support services for the BP Cannonball pipeline repair project offshore Trinidad.

Bibby Offshore’s scope of work included seabed preparation and excavation for the cutting and recovery of damaged sections of a 26in concrete coated pipeline.

The scope also included weight coating removal, pipeline preparation for the installation of two Oilstate Industries Hydrocouple pipeline repair connectors and the final installation and testing of the connectors.

In December 2005, Bibby Offshore also provided Bibby Sapphire to support the project. Her role, in diverless construction support mode, was to transport and wet store the 26in concrete-coated repair spools and recover the damaged sections of the pipeline.

The vessel arrived in Trinidad just before Christmas and spent several weeks in the area before sailing on the 15 day transit back to the UK for her re-fit into full Saturation Diving Support mode.

The BP Cannonball project has now been successfully completed with BP advising that first gas was achieved on Sunday 12th of March. This contract has proven to be an outstanding success to Bibby Offshore in terms of Project Performance and Delivery. It has been executed in an area of very difficult environmental conditions, with an excellent safety performance by all concerned. The end client, BP, has advised of their satisfaction and of the high quality performance of Bibby Offshore/ISS in general.
