GEO provides more details on newbuild

    Vessel & ROV News // April 3, 2006

GEO ASA has provided more details about the Aker ROV 06 ROV support vessel it has ordered from Aker Yards in Brazil.

The vessel is a sister vessel to the one ordered from Aker Brattvaag scheduled for delivery May 2007. The contract is worth approximately NKr 400 million, and the vessel is scheduled for delivery in May of 2008.

The ROV 06 vessel will have a total length of 106m, free deck space of 1,100 square metres and accommodation for 100.

The vessel is specially designed and equipped for subsea operations with a focus on good seakeeping and excellent station-keeping performance (DP class 2).

The vessel will be built according to DNV’s CLEAN DESIGN and COMFORT CLASS, and will be outfitted with two Work Class ROVs, an ROV hangar with doors and ability to launch ROVs on both sides, as well as through dedicated ROV moonpool, a 140 tonne subsea crane, work moonpool and helideck.

Said GEO: "The ordering of the vessel in Brazil must be seen as part of an overall plan to develop GEO into one of the leading operators within its segment in Brazil. The vessel is so far the first of its kind ordered with a Brazilian yard and to carry Brazilian flag.

GEO is now established with subsidiaries in Europe, North and South America and Australasia.
