Stolt Offshore becomes 'Acergy'News // February 2, 2006
Stolt Offshore has formally changed its name to Acergy, effective 01 February.
In a brochure the company has produced to expalin the name change, Acergy said it had to change its name following the sale of Stolt-Nielsen’s shares in the company,
which required it to change its name for legal reasons.
"But this obligation also gives us a unique opportunity – to create a new name and brand that reflect our vision and values. This evolution is yet another key step in the development of our group," claimed the company. "Becoming Acergy sends out a clear signal to the world about our intentions. It tells our clients, our partners and our employees that we work as one group worldwide. Globally aware and capable, but also sensitive to local markets and issues."
The statement went on to say: "We are a seabed-to-surface engineering and construction contractor for the offshore oil and gas industry worldwide. We plan, design and deliver complex, integrated projects in harsh and challenging environments. We operate internationally as one group – globally aware and locally sensitive, sharing our expertise and experience to create innovative solutions. We are more than solution providers, we are solution partners – ready to make the long-term investments in our people, assets, know-how and relationships in support of our clients."
"We have a common vision of what we want Acergy to be: the acknowledged leader in seabed-to-surface engineering and construction."
The former Stolt Offshore said one of the reasons it chose the name Acergy was because the word derives from the Latin term for sharp, which it called "a subtle reference to both the services we provide and the way we work, and by fusing 'Acer' with an element of the word energy we also sustain a link with our industry."
