Bollinger Shipyard in the US delivered another PSV recently, Irene B, which was built for owner JCH Marine of Lockport, Louisiana.
Captain Anthony Canturell grew up in the bayou country of Louisiana, then joined the marines to see the world. He is now back in the bayou country, as captain of one of Bollinger's popular new 163ft supply vessels.
During sea trials on January 25 he was clearly delighted with his new command. The large comfortable wheelhouse has a dynamic positioning, DP1, linked to an IVCS 2000 integrated vessel control system from Beier Radio.
This is available at both the forward command station and the aft control station with its excellent visibility aft over the cargo deck.
Accommodation for both boat crew and work or dive crews is spacious and comfortable with light wood trim and high gloss finishes in the lounge and sleeping quarters with space for up to 18 people. The well-equipped galley features a massive built-in refrigerator and a separate mess area. The house is set well forward to provide for the 110ft aft deck.
Entry to the engine room is from the main deck just off the galley, which takes one down to the bow thruster engine area where a Cummins N14 engine provides power for both the bow thruster and a 1,900 gallon/minute fire monitor.
From this area a long companionway leads aft between the boat’s extensive tankage to the main engine room set well aft. The exhaust for the main engines and auxiliaries is brought forward in insulated casings through this companionway to be exited up through stacks built into the house work.
In the main engine room a pair of Cummins 6CTA8.3 (D) M-powered 99kW gensets are flanked by a pair of Cummins KTA38 M0 engines each delivering 750hp at 1600rpm into Twin Disc 5301 gears with 4.96:1 reduction. The genset engines also provide pumping for vessel's 50,330 gallons of liquid mud, 57,832 gallons of fuel, 11,200 gallons of potable water and 44,500 gallons of methanol.
Irene B will be managed for her owners by Kevin Gros Offshore LLC. This company operates a fleet of nine supply boats, three of which they own.
