Metalships delivered Arbol Grande in May 2003.
Metalships & Dock, the Spanish shipyard based in Vigo which is a subsidiary of Rodman Polyships Group, has been awarded a contract to build a sophisticated construction vessel for North Ocean 1 KS, a Norwegian-Dutch joint venture based in Bergen, Norway.
The 120m vessel will be capable of subsea construction, laying umbilicals, maintenance work on subsea infrastructure, and of general support duties, and will have a beam of 27m and be of diesel electric design with a total of 10,000kW.
The vessel will have a pair of 3,500kW CRP azimuthing thrusters, and will bear class notation including DNV +1 A1, EO, Hldk, dk(+), DP 11 , COMF and will have accommodation on board for 120.
The yard says the order also includes two options which have to be declared shortly.
Construction will start later in the first quarter of 2006, and should be completed in 17 months. Should the options be declared, the yard will have work until the summer of 2008.
This is the second contract Metalships has secured from this owner, having delivered the offshore vessel Arbol Grande, which is currently operating in the Gulf of Mexico, in May 2003.
