Huge increase in orders by Norwegian owners

    News // November 21, 2005

The latest Quarterly Report from the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association (NSA) show that the number of ships ordered by Norwegian shipowners has "vastly increased" in the third quarter, and that the majority of these orders have been placed with Norwegian yards.

"Over the last year there has been a positive development of ships being ordered by Norwegian shipowners. From the second to the third quarter the increase was 5 per cent and for the last four quarters the total increase has been 42 per cent," said the NSA.

The report said that as of the beginning of October there were 52 Norwegian ships on order at the shipyards, compared to just 21 at the same time last year.

Many of the orders placed by Norwegian owners at Norwegian yards will, of course, be for offshore support vessels of various types.
