    Eidesvik orders Gass-Avant PSV

    News // October 4, 2005

The VS493 Gass-Avant will bea dual fuel version of the VS493 (shown here).

Eidesvik in Norway has ordered a new design – which it has dubbed the Gass-Avant – from West Contractors in Norway.

In most respects, the VS493 Avant design will be similar to the first example of the class, Viking Avant, delivered in December 2004, which broke new ground in the supply ship market having a number of innovative features including, most notably, superstructure arranged aft, rather than forward as on a conventional PSV.

Unlike Viking Avant, however, the new version of the VS493 will be dual fuel vessel and burn LNG, as well as fuel oil, in the manner of Eidesvik’s groundbreaking Viking Energy.

At 92.2m overall and with a breadth of 21m, and deadweight of 5,600 tonnes, the VS493 Gass-Avant will bear DNV’s ‘CLEAN’ class notation.

The newbuild will be delivered in August 2007.
