The inaugural OSV Singapore conference, OSV Singapore 2005, which took place at the National University of Singapore earlier this week, was a great success.
Held 20-21 September, with shipbuilder Keppel Singmarine as its main sponsor, and jointly orgaqnised by the Centre for Offshore Research Engineering (CORE) at the National University and RINA and IMAREST, the two-day event heard papers from many leading industry figures from the region and outside the region.
Several papers given by well known companies from Norway were a key feature of the event.
Attendees heard papers on a wide range of interesting and pertinent subjects, including new demands for offshore tugs, various aspects of design and classification of offshore support vessels, and liquid handling systems for supply vessels.
Dynamic positioning was also the subject of a number of well-received papers, as was recent developments in propulsion - particularly diesel electric propulsion - and the use of a range of propulsors new to the support vessel market such as pods, various types of azimuthing thruster, and Voith Schneider Propellers (VSPs).
