    CNPOEC selects MAN BW engines for icebreakers

    MAN B&W Diesel A/S in Denmark has been awarded a contract to supply complete twin-screw medium speed propulsion packages for two 5,000hp icebreaking multi-purpose wor vessels in China.

    Both newbuildings, which will be built by Wuchang Shipyard, Wuhan, are to be operated by China National Petroleum Offshore Engineering Co Ltd (CNPOEC).

    Shipment of the first vesselís propulsion package to the yard is scheduled to take place from April 2006; the shipment for the second vessel is planned to take place
    during June 2006.

    The completed newbuildings are expected to be taken over by the owner during first half of 2007.

    The icebreaking multi-purpose vessels were designed by the SDARI design institute and have been optimised for offshore work and icebreaking operations worldwide.
