NKK Corporation in Japan has completed and delivered what it describes as the most powerful anchor handling tug supply vessel (AHTSV) for use in the Indian Ocean.

The newbuilding, Malaviya Ten, was handed over at the end of November 1999. It is 65.75m in length and achieved a trials speed of 15kt.

The vessel has a bollard pull capacity of about 160t with four main engines of 3400ps each and two propeller shafts with kort nozzles.

It is equipped with two controllable-pitch propellers, bow and stern thrusters and two flap rudders, and a joystick control unit.

The owner of the vessel is The Great Eastern Shipping CompanyLimited (GESCO) which is a major operator of the offshore field in the Indian Ocean.

The Malaviya Ten will be chartered by ONGC and operated in the Indian Ocean for oil and gas development.
