    Cammell Laird completes drillship conversion

    Cammell Laird in the UK has completed a major upgrade of the R&B Falcon vessel Deepwater Navigator (formerly Peregrine VII) from a salvage vessel to a deepwater Class I drill ship.

    The work involved the insertion of a 31m new mid-section, 5m full length sponsons, new main deck, drill floor, derrick, heli-deck, complete new drill systems, four new diesel engines, four new azimuthing thrusters, new switchboards, a new Dynamic Positioning (DP) system, and the complete renewal of all cables and piping.

    The project is believed to be the largest of its type ever carried out in Europe, and required more than 7,000 tonnes of new steel fabrication.
