OPITO portal to oil and gas training providersTraining // March 22, 2000
Clear directions to the new web site will be provided on the OPITO web site. The new site is due to come online in April, says OPITO.
Last year an Alliance Project of Scottish Enterprise, OPITO and IEP constructed the only comprehensive directory of Training Providers to the Oil and Gas Industry, based in Scotland. With additional assistance from DfEE OPITO now intends to enlarge thisto cover all of the UK.
There is no charge to organisations for being included. The original directory contained contact and product/service details of organisations that provided a significant amount of training to the industry. This included those who provide specialist as well as more general training. Organisations included commercial training companies and departments within further and higher educational establishments. The directory was published on a CD and issued jointly by OPITO (who are the owners) and Scottish Enterprise (who sponsored the original project) at the Offshore Europe Conference and Exhibition in Aberdeen in September 1999. Scottish Enterprise has also distributed copies to all UK Embassies and overseas Delegations.
The original aim of the directory was to help Scottish-based training providers access more business opportunities both at home and abroad. Since, says OPITO, it has been looking at ways of improving the directory and we has now secured additional funding that will help OPITO progress this. The changes that OPITO is now making include the enlargement of the directory to accommodate organisations from the whole of the UK, recognising that the funding for the enlarged project is coming from OPITO, IEP, DfEE as well as Scottish Enterprise.
The new web site, which will be an adjunct to the OPITO web site is in the process of construction. In recognition of these changes the title of the 'product' has been changed to the 'OPITO Portal to Oil & Gas Training Providers.'
OPITO says it believes that these changes will make the portal more accessible, easier to use and capable of 'on line' updating by the organisations included. There will also be improvements in the functionality and quality of the data available from theportal. As with the original directory there will be a hot link to external web sites. There will also be the option for organisations to do some 'on line' advertising.
