    Atlantic Marine delivers Astro Barracuda

    Atlantic Marine, Inc, of Jacksonville, Florida, has delivered its 240th vessel, the Astro Barracuda, a platform supply vessel (PSV) it built for Astro Offshore Corporation, a subsidiary of Astromaritima Navegacao, SA, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

    The 233 x 54 ft PSV was designed by Peter S Hatfield Ltd, Vancouver, BC Canada, and is designed to support drill ships, rigs and FPSOs in very deep waters and tough weather conditions.

    The vessel bears the notation ABS + A-1, A.M.S., Circle E, DPS-1, Full Ocean Service, SOLAS and MARPOL requirements. The vessel is propelled by two EMD 16-645-E7 diesel engines (2,875bhp at 900rom) which drive two Ulstein 2000H Z-Drives, one Ulstein retractable bow thruster and a single Ulstein transverse tunnel bow thruster.

    Electrical power on board will be provided by three 300kW Detroit Diesel 8V-92 generators. The PSV will also carry 900 m3 of fuel oil, 1,750 m3 of fresh water, 150 m3 of dry bulk, 1,400 metric tons deck load and will have accommodations for 14 crew and 6passengers.

    Astromaritima Navegacao SA owns and operates a fleet of offshore supply vessels. Construction was supported by a Title XI loan guarantee approved by the Maritime Administration (MARAD) in the US, making this the first Latin American transaction under MARAD's Title XI Guarantee Program.
