    DHI gets the nod

    Yard News // October 20, 2000
In mid-October, the way was cleared for debt-laden Daewoo Heavy Industries (DHI) to be split into three new companies, thus finally separating the shipbuilding arm of DHI from its parent.

The split was made possible on 09 October, when the Korean government formally ratified a revised tax bill that will enable companies that are being broken up to take advantage of certain tax breaks.

The passing of the legislation will save DHI in the order of $200 million, and the long-awaited split was due to have been completed by 26 October.
