Van der Giessen-de Noord shipyard in Holland, part of the IHC Group of shipyards, has won an order from Global Marine Systems to construct an 8,000dwt cable layer.
The newbuilding is due for delivery in October 2001.
Global Marine Systems has ordered ships from the Dutch yard before - in 1999 it took delivery of the Bold Endeavour from Van der Giessen-de Noord.
The new ship will be equipped with a quartet of cable tanks and will be equipped with a remotely operated vehicle for cable maintenance and installation.
Global Marine Systems says the newbuild will be based in Baltimore, and will be employed maintaining and repairing cables under the Atlantic Cable Maintenance Agreement.
