    Heavy Cargoes for Qatar

    News // September 22, 2000
In early September, Mammoet Shipping's Happy Ranger loaded an 825 tonne regenerator at Gijon for the National Oil Distribution Company (NODCO) project in Messaieed, Qatar.

The main bulk of the 5,000m3 cargo was delivered by truck to Happy Ranger. This included a 270 tonne reactor and a 102 tonne so-called 'orifice' chamber.

The regenerator, however, was of such size that it could not be taken to the ship by road. The 35.5m x 12.6m x 10.9m construction was rolled onto a barge, which was towed to the ship and moored alongside.

Subsequently, the Happy Ranger's own cranes lifted the regenerator on board and into her hold.

The NODCO project will see the expansion of an existing refinery at Messaieed.
