    More cable layers ordered

    Hanjin Heavy Industries (HHI) in Korea has been awarded a contract by France Telecom Marine for a pair of cable laying and repair ships.

    The newbuilds will be based on a design HHI built for Korea Submarine Telecom in 1998. The first is slated for delivery in December of 2001, the second in March 2002.

    The newbuilds will be equipped with remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and will be capable of carrying 8,500 tonnes of cable and related equipment.
