Veba Hanze GBS arrives in Rotterdam

    Projects and Operations // July 28, 2000
Dockwise was contracted by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in Korea for the transportation of the Veba Oil Gravity Base Structure (GBS) and the Integrated Production Deck (IPD) from Ulsan in Korea to Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

The 16,000t Veba Hanze GBS is 63m long, 56m wide and 83.5m high and was loaded on board the Mighty Servant 3 by skidding the structure on three skidbeams over the side of the vessel. The operation was completed in just 10 hours, says Dockwise.

After a six-week voyage the structure arrived in Rotterdam, where it will be prepared for the tow-out to the Hanze field on the Dutch Continental Shelf.

The IPD, which weighs approximately 8,000t, is due to leave Ulsan at the beginning of next year. The IPD will be installed in the Hanze field by means of a heavy lift crane vessel.

The photograph shown here shows the Mighty Servant 3 and GBS passing through the Channel prior to arrival in Rotterdam on 19 June.
