Oceaneering provides expertise for historic vessels

    News // June 30, 2000
Oceaneering International is providing support services for an effort to recovery the H L Hunley, a Civil War submarine, which sank in the Atlantic off the coast of Charleston, South Carolina following the first successful submarine attack in 1864.

The company is under contract to Friends of the Hunley Inc, which is managing the effort to recover the submarine.

In another such effort, Oceaneering is also supporting the US Navy Supervisor of Salvage (SUPSALV) and US Navy divers in an effort to retrieve the engine of the ironclad Monitor, which sank in heavy seas 16 miles off Cape Hatteras in 1862.

Oceaneering will be providing a lift vessel and equipment to stabilise and support the hull and are also designing, procuring and rigging the bridge frame to be installed over the Monitor.
