    News // June 30, 2000
Cal Dive International reports that one of its vessels, the DPDSV Balmoral Sea, was extensively damaged by a fire at the end of June whilst alongside in New Orleans.

The fire apparently broke out as the vessel was being prepared to enter drydock for an extended period. The vessel crew was evacuated and no injuries were reported.

During the fire fighting operation conducted by the City of New Orleans, the vessel listed, and is now resting in approximately 30ft of water.

S James Nelson, Jr, Chief Financial Officer, stated: "The vessel was fully insured and is expected to be out of service a good portion of the third quarter. CDI is co-operating with the City of New Orleans, the Coast Guard and insurance underwriters to develop a plan to re-float the vessel and determine the extent of damage."
