Rig goes adrift in North Sea

    News // June 16, 2000
Fred Olsen's Bideford Dolphin drilling rig went adrift briefly in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea in mid-June whilst conducting exploration drilling in the Snorre field on behalf of Norsk hydro.

Strong winds are understood to have caused the rig to drift away from its moorings. More than 70 personnel on board the rig were evacuated by helicopter.

The company says production from the field is unlikely to be badly affected, however.
