Singapore yard to undertake dredger work

    Yard News // June 16, 2000
Singapore Technologies Marine (STM) says its has won two substantial conversion contracts for dredging companies.

The first job that STM will undertake was awarded by Dutch dredging contractor HAM, and will see STM lengthen and modify the trailing suction hopper dredger HAM 310.

The job will involve lengthening the vessel by some 30m, and modifications to the ship's jet water piping, dredge pipes, dredge pump motors and the self-emptying system.

The second contract was awarded by another Dutch dredging company, Van Oord ACZ, and requires the yard to carry out conversion work on the construction/side stone dumping vessel, Jan Steen.

STM will insert a new deck level below the bridge to increase the accommodation available on board and will install a new aft construction deck, a new A-frame and a knuckle boom crane. The Dynamic Positioning (DP) system on the Jan Steen will also be upgraded, from DP Class 1 to DP Class 2. Two new thrusters and a new diesel generator will also be installed.
